Hide It campaign a big success in its first year!!!


Hello Dana Point residents, business owners and visitors!  We’d like to thank you for all of the support and assistance over this past year in spreading the word about our crime prevention campaigns, “Hide It, Lock It, Or Lose It” and “Shwazooki”.  Over the past 12 months we have worked very hard to deliver this very important message to as many people as possible and we are very pleased with the results. 

Since September of last year we’ve held about 40 meetings for HOA’s and Neighborhood Watch groups with over 800 people in attendance.  We have attended about 22 events citywide, having reached almost 1,700 people.  Our website continues to generate interest with hits from almost 20 countries worldwide!  To date, we’ve had over 3,700 unique visits to our website at www.hideitlockitorloseit.com

In addition, crime rates have dropped, significantly!  Since September of last year, vehicle related thefts have dropped from 77% of total property crime to 41%, thefts from unlocked vehicle thefts have dropped from 69% to 35%, and overall property crime has dropped from 61% to 55%.  This is largely attributed to the success of this program as well as the response and progression of this community as a whole.
